'Improvised Weapon' Found During Security Alert

An "improvised weapon" has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast, according to the PSNI.

Police said they received information about an "explosive device" on Upper Dunmurry Lane on Monday, 10 December.

Residents were evacuated from their homes and schools remained closed during the alert which lasted two days.

Police said the weapon they discovered was "designed to kill or seriously injure police officers".

The weapon has been taken for further examination.

L'Derry Security Alert Continues Following Weapon Find
A security alert in L'Derry is continuing after police found a weapon near the City Cemetery. A suspicious object was discovered at the cemetery in the Lone Moor Road area on Wednesday afternoon. Police have sealed off the area and are continuing to search the scene.

Danny Kinahan, Ulster Unionist MLA for South Antrim, has condemned those responsible for a bomb alert near Ballyclare Police Station this morning. Local people had to be evacuated from their homes and children making their way to school were also put at risk.

L'Derry Security Alert As Firearm Found
The Whitehouse Road in L'Derry has been closed due to a security alert after a firearm was discovered in the area. Police closed the route at around 7.45am this morning, Tuesday 15 January, and diversions are in place. Officers are currently examining the weapon.

Police Release Image Of Weapon In Jennifer Dornan Investigation
Police investigating the murder of Jennifer Dornan have released a photograph of a knife similar to one they believe was used in her murder. The knife is almost 14 inches long and has distinctive orange and white markings. Police believe a similar knife was used to stab 30-year-old Jennifer before her home at Hazel View was set on fire.

Suspicious Object Sparks Antrim Security Alert
Police are currently dealing with a security alert in County Antrim. The discovery of a suspicious object sparked the operation on the A6 Belfast Road on Thursday 31 January. The road has been closed between the New Lodge and Rathmore roads. Diversions are in place and airport traffic is not likely to be affected.
