Storm Erik Set To Batter NI On Friday

Northern Ireland is bracing itself for gale force winds approaching the weekend, as the Met Office has updated the weather warning.

The yellow alert originally in place has been split in two, with wind warnings now covering the region from 9am on Friday 08 February until 6pm, and also from shortly after midnight through to 3pm on Saturday 09.

Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, with travel expected to be dangerous on exposed routes and bridges.

Some short term losses of power are also expected.

NI Set For Snow This Weekend
Northern Ireland is set for a snowy St. Patrick's Day weekend, with a yellow weather warning in place for Saturday 16 March. As Storm Gareth settles, a spell of snow will hit the region, with travel disruption anticipated. The yellow alert will cover most of the day- coming into force at 4am and remaining active until 9pm on Saturday evening.

Over 170 Politicians Sign Letter To Reform Abortion Laws In NI
Over 170 politicians have signed a letter to reform abortion laws in Northern Ireland. The group, which comprises of Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem MPs and peers, Stormont Assembly members and Irish politicians, said it is an issue of protecting women's human rights and honouring the Good Friday Agreement.

UK Govt Accused Of 'Power-Grabbing' Over Brexit Plan In NI
Sinn Féin has accused the UK government of a "power-grab" after it was revealed that it is preparing to remove references to the European Union from legislation in Northern Ireland. The announcement was made at a briefing between Northern Ireland Office (NIO) officials and Sinn Féin.

British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference To Meet In July
The British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference will meet in July with the aim of bringing together the British and Irish governments to promote bilateral co-operation at all levels on all matters of mutual interest. The Conference last met in February 2007.

Yellow Warning For Strong Winds Issued In NI
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds throughout Northern Ireland. The warning comes into place at 1am on Wednesday, 24 January, until 2pm. Gusts of up to 50 to 60mph are expected. The high winds may affect public transport services and delays are expected.
