Strong Winds Expected As Storm Gareth Batters NI

Storm Gareth is set to cause potential disruption across Northern Ireland, the Met Office has said.

A yellow weather warning is in place from 3pm today, Tuesday 12 March to 12 noon on Wednesday 13.

It comes as strong northwesterly winds are expected to develop throughout the afternoon. The Met Office has advised of a chance of power cuts and travel disruption as a result.

Some coastal routes and sea fronts are likely to be affected by spray or large waves, with a small chance of injuries or danger to life from flying debris. Those wishing to travel tomorrow are warned of longer journey times and possible delays and cancellations to rail, air and ferry services. Mobile phone coverage may also be affected.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said on Twitter that the UK is in for an "unsettled week" with Storm Gareth on the way.
