Man Shot Dead In Co Down

A murder investigation is underway after a man was found shot dead at a petrol station in County Down.

The body was discovered in the village of Waringstown just before 9pm on Monday night, 19 August.

The victim was discovered in his car that was parked to the rear of the Main Street filling station.

The road remains closed to the public this morning and the scene sealed off while enquiries continue. Local diversions are in place.

Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd said the shooting has left the local community in "absolute shock".

"This is a very quiet area and people are appalled by what has happened," he said today.

"A PSNI investigation is now underway and that must be allowed to proceed.

"I would encourage anyone with information on what happened to bring it forward to the police."

Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Shaw issued an appeal for information, urging anyone with details that could potentially assist the investigation to contact detectives on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
