Drugs Charity Issues Warning As Youths Hospitalised
A local drugs charity has issued a warning following overdoses linked to a batch of Pregabalin believed to be circulating the L'Derry area.
Four young people are understood to have been admitted to hospital.
Extern, a leading social justice charity tackling issues such as homelessness and drug and alcohol abuse, said it was made aware of the drug, which is also known as Lyrica, being sold in the area.
Writing on the ExternWest Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "Pregabalin is circulating in the Derry area at present which has resulted in unintentional OD incidents with 4 young people requiring hospital admissions. The Pregabalin is reported to have a signature on the pack, 300 mg tablets, which are smaller than the prescribed medication. Apparently there is a delay in effect."
The prescription drug is also used to treat epilepsy, nerve pain and anxiety.
