Co Down Gymnast Set For Olympics

Local gymnast Rhys McClenaghan is set for Tokyo next year to compete in the 2020 Olympics.

The Newtownards man made history after reaching the pommel-horse final at the World Gymnastics Championships.

The achievement makes the 20-year-old the first Irish gymnast to reach a world final. His qualifying score of 15.200 in Stuttgart was only bettered once, by Great Britain's Max Whitlock.

McClenaghan describes his achievement as "a dream come true".

The pommel-horse final is due to take place on Saturday.
