Man Slashed Across Face In Newry

A man has been slashed across the face during a serious assault in Newry.

Police are investigating the incident that took place at around 2am on Saturday morning, 19 October.

The 34-year-old victim was walking along Canal Street when a vehicle approached him at the Merchants Quay junction and two men emerged. One of the assailants slashed the man across the face, causing him to fall to the ground, before both kicked him until he lost consciousness.

The victim sustained a seven inch gash to his face, a smaller slash wound to his upper arm and various other cuts and bruises during the violent onslaught.

The suspects were travelling in a silver five door Volkswagen Golf.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area, which they believe would have been busy at the time, to contact them on 101 quoting reference 573 of 19/10/19.

Woman In L'Derry Arrested Under Terrorism Act
A woman has been arrested in L'Derry under the terrorism act. The 63-year-old was detained in the Creggan area today, Thursday 31 October. Police said detectives made the arrest while "investigating terrorist activity earlier today". The suspect has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite where she is being questioned by detectives.

An exploded pipe-bomb in west Belfast was the cause of a security operation on Thursday evening, police have confirmed. The householder of a property in Norglen Parade discovered the device on Tuesday morning, 05 November. It's believed to have exploded at around 10.30pm the previous night.
