Pipe-Bomb Explosion Sparks West Belfast Alert

An exploded pipe-bomb in west Belfast was the cause of a security operation on Thursday evening, police have confirmed.

The householder of a property in Norglen Parade discovered the device on Tuesday morning, 05 November. It's believed to have exploded at around 10.30pm the previous night.

Police were alerted to the incident on Thursday evening and established a presence in the area, with ATO tasked to investigate. The device was declared as a viable pipe-bomb.

Inspector Phillip McCullough said: "There have been no reports of any injuries. Slight damage was caused to a windowsill of the property.

"The remnants of the device have now been seized by police and taken away for further forensic examination and our enquiries are continuing.

"Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Norglen Parade area on Monday evening, or anyone with information that could help our investigation is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 1570 of 07/11/19."
