Man Seriously Injured In Paramilitary-Style Attack

A man has suffered a head laceration and serious injuries to one hand following an assault during an aggravated burglary in Newtownabbey.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was assaulted by two masked men wielding hammers at his flat in Carmeen Drive on Tuesday night, 19 November. The injuries to his hand are likely to require surgery.

The pair entered the flat at around 8.45pm. While enquiries are at an early stage, police said the incident has the hallmarks of a paramilitary style assault.

Chief Inspector David Moore said: "This is a man who has never come to the attention of police who has been brutally assaulted in his own home. Society needs to move on from the apparent tolerance or even tacit approval that might exist for attacks of this nature. I would strongly encourage anyone with information to get in touch with our detectives."

Details can be passed by calling 101 and quoting reference CCS 1658 of 19/10/19. Alternatively, information can be provided in confidence via 0800 555 111.
