Police Appeal After Man Seriously Injured In Targeted L’Derry Assault

Detectives in L’Derry have launched an investigation into a serious assault that took place in the Waterside area during the early hours of Saturday, 14 February.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 am as a man was walking through the Abbeydale area. He was reportedly targeted by two males, both of whom were described as being dressed entirely in black. The assailants were said to be carrying "baton-like objects" during the attack.

As a result of the assault, the victim sustained significant facial injuries, including several fractures. He was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is now appealing for witnesses to help identify the suspects and establish a motive for the attack. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the Abbeydale vicinity at the time or who may have captured the incident on security cameras.

A police spokesperson stated: "Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this, or who may have relevant video footage, ring doorbell or other to please contact officers on 101 quoting reference 124 14/02/26."
