Man Extradited To NI Over Murder Bid On PSNI Officer

A man wanted in Northern Ireland on suspicion of the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer has been arrested by Gardai.

The 33-year-old suspect was arrested on foot of a European Arrest Warrant and has been formally extradited to NI and is being detained in police custody.

The arrest is in relation to an under-vehicle bomb being placed under a PSNI officer's car in Eglinton on 18 June, 2015.

The man has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

He is expected to appear before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court via video link from Musgrave custody suite in Belfast today, 21 April.

Govt Will Not Hold Public Inquiry Into Murder Of Pat Finucane
The UK Government has decided not to establish a public inquiry into the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane. Mr Finucane, a practicing lawyer, was murdered in his home in North Belfast on the evening of Sunday 12 February 1989. He was shot 14 times. The attack was carried out by gunmen from a loyalist paramilitary group.
