More Must Be Done To Combat Racism - Alliance
More must be done to combat racism in society, Alliance Councillor Michelle Kelly has said after a mural dedicated to Maya Angelou in East Belfast was defaced.
Speaking after the discovery, Michelle said: "This mural was about creating hope and inspiring all those who saw it, yet the actions of a minority has brought the cruel sting of racism back into our society.
"The past few days have witnessed another defining moment in the fight against racism, following the vicious attacks on three England footballers. As a society we must be actively anti-racist, to shine a light on any behaviour that falls short of acceptable.
"For those behind this incident locally I would urge them to really think about their behaviour and the pain and suffering their split second action will have caused others.
"I utterly condemn this hate-fuelled incident and would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible."

Attack on Belfast mosque is condemned
Sinn Féin assembly member Alex Maskey has condemned an incident, which involved bricks being thrown at a mosque in south Belfast. The attack is not believed to have been a racial attack. It was discovered when local Muslims gathered for Friday prayer in the building found three windows were broken. No one was injured in the attack on the building.

Alliance East Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has described a new paramilitary mural in east Belfast as "a setback for our society". The unfinished mural at the junction of Carlingford Street and Ardenvohr Street features two masked gunmen and images of the Maze prison. Councillor Hendron said: "This is a setback for our society.
