James McClean Rejoins Wigan

L'Derry-born footballer James McClean has sealed a return move to Wigan Athletic.

Originally from the Creggan area, the 32-year-old winger joins the English League One side on an initial one-year deal after three seasons with Stoke City.

The Republic of Ireland international played 73 games for Wigan between 2013 and 2015, securing the club's 2014/15 Player of the Year award.

This time at Wigan he will join up with manager Leam Richardson.

McClean was unveiled to the fans at the DW Stadium last night ahead of Wigan's 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

In a statement, the club said: "We are delighted to confirm the signing of Republic of Ireland international James McClean on an initial one-year deal.

"With over 300 appearances across the top-flight and the Championship to his name, McClean brings vast experience and quality to Leam Richardson's side in the early stages of their 2021/22 Sky Bet League One campaign.

"Popular with Latics supporters for his tireless and committed performances, the Club has equally held a place in McClean's heart since his departure, highlighted further last year when he donated £5,000 to the Wigan Athletic Supporters' Club Crowdfunder as the Club's supporters raised over £750,000 to save Latics, prior to the acquisition of the Club by Phoenix 2021 Limited."
