Action Taken To Reduce HGVs In Clady Village

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has introduced a Statutory Rule to significantly reduce the number of HGVs using the narrow main street through Clady village.

Minister Mallon said: "I recently met with residents and local representatives. I gave them a commitment that I would act to resolve this matter as quickly as possible and I am pleased to announce that a weight restriction will come into operation on 29 November 2021."

The Statutory Rule will prohibit vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight from using the B85 Urney Road, Clady from its junction with the B165 Bellspark Road to its junction with the U0204 Urney Road. Vehicles are excepted from the restriction in certain circumstances such as HGVs making local deliveries or travelling to and from local businesses.

While the Statutory Rule comes into effect on the 29 November enforcement will not begin until signage has been placed on all approach roads.

However the Department would urge drivers of HGVs to refrain from using the route through the village from 29 November 2021.

DUP Condemn 'Sinister' Graffiti Targeting Robin Swann

Graffiti in Dungannon targeting Health Minister Robin Swann has been described as "sinister".

Commenting on the graffitt, Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Deborah Erskine Deborah Erskine said: "I am absolutely appalled to see this graffiti. This is a sinister threat towards a Minister with a young family, who is simply trying to do his best. There are those who may disagree with the political decisions made yesterday but this is an appalling incident and should be wholeheartedly condemned."

Dungannon DUP representatives Clement Cuthbertson and Kim Ashton also reiterated their disgust.

Cllr Kim Ashton stated: "Threats and graffiti of such a nature has no place whatsoever in our political discourse. No Minister deserves levels of abuse and attacks."

Cllr Clement Cuthbertson added: "Threats appearing on the Newell Road road are nothing new. The people in Dungannon have to endure this on a regular basis. While I totally disagree with the Executive's decision to introduce covid passports, all threats to elected representatives are wrong and are to be condemned."

Man Charged In Connection With Limavady Firearm Seizure

A 50-year-old man has appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court charged in connection with the discovery of weapons and ammunition.

The man was arrested after police discovered a shotgun and ammunition in Limavady. The man was subsequently changed with possession with intent, under suspicious circumstances and without a licence.

According to reports, the case is related to an ongoing investigation into UDA criminality in North Antrim.
