Finance Minister Concludes US Visit In Washington DC

Finance Minister, Conor Murphy has concluded his visit to Washington DC where he spent his time promoting Northern Ireland to business leaders, academia and elected representatives.

The Minister began his visit meeting leading business figures at an Ibec event before meeting with students and alumni at the Washington Ireland Programme attended by Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to President Biden.

During his stay Minister Murphy attended the White House reception and Speaker Nancy Pelosi's lunch on Capitol Hill. The Minister addressed the NI Bureau St Patrick's Day event and also spoke at the "Democratic Renewal in Divided Times: Reviving the Ambition and Optimism of the Good Friday Agreement" panel discussion attended by Senator Chris Murphy.

While in Washington DC the Finance Minister also visited the Executive's Bureau to meet the team and learn more about their work promoting the region within the United States.

Speaking as his programme drew to a close, Minister Conor Murphy said: "This visit has been an important opportunity to re-establish relationships in person after the two year covid hiatus. The United States played a pivotal role in the peace process and continues to support peace and prosperity in Ireland. As we head towards the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement it was reassuring to hear that America's commitment to the Good Friday Agreement remains steadfast.

"It has been fantastic to meet with business leaders, senators, members of congress, academia and students during my time here. I had the opportunity to highlight the positive transformation that has taken place in the North and that we are a great place for economic investment.

"This visit was important in maintaining and nurturing our deep connections with the United States."
