Man remanded in custody following incident

A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody following an incident in Co Antrim at the weekend.

David Lecky, of The Beeches, Crumlin is accused of maliciously wounding Linfield footballer Pat Wall in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Lecky is further accused of assaulting Mr Walls's girlfriend Michelle O'Neill and of causing grievous bodily harm to her brother Eamon.

However, the defendant's solicitor said her client would be making a "strong case for self defence".

The incident occurred just a few hours after Mr Wall was involved in Linfield's final day victory against Glentoran ensuring a 45th league title for the Belfast side.
