UU students to work with US Government
Six students from the University of Ulster are to travel to Washington DC this summer to spend eight weeks experiencing at first hand the work of the US Government.
The students - Kevin McNamee, Maria Curry, Rachel Finlay, Vanessa McGee, Ciara Phillips and Jacqueline Taaffe - are taking part in the Washington-Ireland Programme, an initiative designed to identify the leaders of the future.
Created in 1995 as the Young Leaders Programme, the project brings outstanding students born in Northern Ireland and the Republic to the American capital for summer internships and leadership seminars.
Among the placements being offered to the Irish students this year are the opportunities to work in the offices of Hilary Clinton, wife of the ex-President and now a Senator, and Peter King, a member of the House of Representatives who has had a long term interest in Northern Ireland affairs.
Lobby and civic groups, the World Bank, broadcaster CBS, Congress Library, DC Superior Court and Government departments are also taking on students under the programme.

People Urged To Be More 'UV Aware' To Protect Their Skin
People across Northern Ireland have been urged to be UV aware and to "get the best from your sunscreen" to help reduce the risk of skin cancer. The Public Health Agency (PHA) and Cancer Focus NI have made the call ahead of Sun Awareness Week, 06-12 May.

Northern Ireland pupils are in a class of their own
Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.
