Five Men Arrested In Connection With 'Unlawful Assembly' In Ards

Five men have been arrested in connection with an unlawful assembly in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards on Thursday 06 April.

In the incident, a large group of men gathered at a house in the area and reported made threats to a male occupant of the house.

The men – aged 56, 48, 43, 40 and 35-years-old – were arrested on suspicion of affray, unlawful assembly and other offences. All five men are remain in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Shivers said: "Enquiries are continuing and this incident is being linked to the ongoing feud between rival drugs gangs across Ards and North Down.

"Police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1361 07/04/23. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

'A' Level School Leavers Increase 5%
The number of pupils in Northern Ireland achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent increased by 4.9% during the five years to 2012/13, according to the Department of Education. The proportion of school leavers achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent was 55.1%, up from from 50.2% in 2008/09.

Men Arrested In Connection With Right-Wing Extremism Released
Four men arrested in connection with right-wing extremism have been released. The men, aged 29, 30, 36 and 46, were arrested following house searches in Ballymena and Coleraine on Wednesday, 26 October. The men have been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

Three More Arrests Made In Ards Unlawful Assembly Investigation
Three more people have been arrested by detectives investigating an unlawful assembly in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards on Thursday 6th April. At around 8pm on 6th April, it was reported that a large group of men had gathered at a house in the area.
