Yellow Weather Warning For Heavy Rain Issued Across NI

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued across Northern Ireland.

The Met Office put the warning in place between midnight and noon on Saturday, 05 August, The heaviest rain is expected in Belfast and the South East,

It said the wet and windy conditions could cause flooding in homes and businesses as well as travel disruption.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “There is a small chance of 40-60mm, with perhaps as much as 20-30mm of this falling in just a couple of hours.

"This will be coupled with some strong winds, widely gusts of 30-35mph are likely, with the risk in some areas, especially exposed coasts in the east, of gusts up to 45-50mph, perhaps bringing some coastal impacts in places. The persistent rain will pull away east into the afternoon, however it will remain generally windy, with a mix of sunshine and blustery showers following."

SDLP Calls For New Strategy To Tackle Child Poverty
The SDLP has called on the Executive to produce a new strategy to tackle child poverty. The party's Opposition Communities Spokesperson, Daniel McCrossan, made the call after a Northern Ireland Audit Office report found one in five children are living in relative poverty.
