Banbridge Shooting: Police Appeal For 'White Van Man' To Come Forward

Detectives investigation a shooting incident in Banbridge last month have issued an appeal for helping in tracking down a specific witnesses.

The detectives are continuing to investigate an incident in which a man, aged in his 40s who was shot in his abdomen by a masked man in a car park on the evening of Friday 12th April. The man remains in hospital at this time – in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Foley said: "This morning, Wednesday 1st May, we are asking the occupant of a white van who was observed in the vicinity of the park and share, Rathfriland Road, Banbridge at the time of the shooting, to make contact with Police.

"The shooting occurred at approximately 8pm that evening – and we believe the person inside the van could potentially assist with our ongoing enquiries. We are very keen to speak with them.

"To date, three men aged 39, 46 and 34, have been arrested in connection with the investigation. They are currently on police bail as enquiries continue.

"I would reiterate our appeal that we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or noticed anything suspicious, to make contact with police on 101, quoting reference number 1683 12/04/24.

"We would especially like to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV, dash-cam or mobile footage of what happened. This information could greatly help with our enquiries."

Man Arrested In Connection With 1992 Police Officer Murder
A 59-year-old man has been arrested at Birmingham Airport in connection with a fatal mortar attack in Newry in 1992. The man was arrested on Wednesday, 21 February by detectives from PSNI's Legacy Investigation Branch, investigating the murder of Constable Colleen McMurray and the attempted murder of her colleague in 1992.

Limavady Man Jailed For Range Of Domestic Abuse Charges
A 30-year-old Limavady man has been sentenced at Antrim Crown Court for five offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, domestic abuse and common assault. Eamon Begley was sentenced to four years – two years in prison and two years on licence.

Appeal After Masked Men Force Entry Into Home Of Elderly Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Man Wanted In Lithuania Arrested In Magherafelt
The PSNI have arrested a 23-year-old man in Magherafelt wanted in Lithuania to face charges of human trafficking. The man was arrested by officers from the Police Service's local policing team in Magherafelt, with assistance from the International Policing Unit. He is expected appear before extradition court in Belfast later today.
