Council make pledge in tackling litter problem
Belfast City Council has reiterated its pledge to tackle the city's litter problem.
It follows the news that a Belfast restaurant was fined more than £800 after it was caught dumping rubbish on the street outside its premises
The Windmill restaurant, which is situated on Church Lane, was taken to court by the Council for offences under Article Three of the Litter Order (Northern Ireland) 1994. This was the largest fine imposed to date for an offence of this nature.
Commenting on the judgement, Heather Louden, Director of Contract Services with Belfast City Council, said: "This judgement, and particularly the severity of the fine, should serve as a reminder to all businesses in Belfast that they have a duty of care when it comes to waste disposal and of the need to ensure that commercial waste is presented in a proper manner and does not present an additional hazard."

The DUP leader of Belfast City Council has questioned the funding of West Belfast Festival over alleged "pro-IRA singing" at one of their events. Councillor Ald Brian Kingston raised the issued after it was alleged that the crowed at a concert at the Festival chanted "ooh ah up the Ra".
