Man Charged Following Disorderly Incident in Newry

A 21-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences, including disorderly behaviour, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault on police, following an incident in Newry on Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Demesne area at approximately 8:20 am on 12 January after receiving reports of a man causing a disturbance and throwing items at a property.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the man in possession of a large piece of wood, who subsequently attacked police officers, resulting in injuries to four individuals.

The suspect appeared before Newry Magistrates' Court today, Monday 13 January.

As is standard procedure, the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) will review the charges.

A 58-year-old man from Co Tyrone has been arrested and charged following a police investigation into irregularities at an Electoral Office in the west of the province. Man Charged Over Banbridge Murder
A man charged with the murder of another man found dead in Banbridge is to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court today, 13 July. The body of 55-year-old Richard Gerard Scullion was found at a property in the Millmount Court area on Monday, 09 July. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Man Arrested Following Police Chase From Belfast To Newry
A man has been arrested following a police chase from Belfast to Newry. Two police officers were injured after a car reversed into their vehicle on the Falls Road in west Belfast at around 4pm on Wednesday, 01 February. A silver coloured Renault Scenic towing a trailer failed to stop after it reversed into a police vehicle.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
