New International Panel To Address Curriculum Reform

Northern Ireland's Education Minister, Paul Givan, has announced the formation of an international advisory panel on curriculum and assessment.

The panel, comprised of education experts from around the world, will provide guidance and recommendations for reforming Northern Ireland's education system.

The panel's mission is to advise on curriculum design, assessment practices, and best practices from around the globe. This expertise will be used to inform Northern Ireland's ongoing curriculum reform efforts, with the goal of creating a "world-class education system."

The panel members include:

• Tim Oates (UK) - Director of Assessment, Research and Development at Cambridge Assessment

• Christine Counsell (UK) - Leading curriculum development expert and former Director of a Multi-Academy Trust

• Harold Hislop (Ireland) - Former Chief Inspector in the Republic of Ireland

• Hardip Begol (England) - Former Director for Assessment, Curriculum and Qualifications at the Department for Education

• Daisy Christodoulou (UK) - Educational author and founder of the No More Marking assessment company

• Nina Hood (New Zealand) - Educationalist and Academic Director of The Teachers' Institute

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of this renowned group of educational experts," said Minister Givan. "Their international experience and insights will be invaluable as we work to create an evidence-based education system for Northern Ireland."

The panel's initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension for two more years.

Belfast Visitor Centre Crowned NI Building Of The Year
Belfast's new James Connolly visitor centre on the Falls Road, Áras Uí Chonghaile. has been named Northern Ireland's Building of the Year. The Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) presented the Liam McCormick Prize to the centre, which was designed for Fáilte Feirste Thiar (Visit West Belfast) by McGurk Architects.

L'Derry Contractor Fined Over Health & Safety Failings
L'Derry-based contractor S Higgins Construction Ltd has been hit with a £10,000 fine over health and safety failings after a metal shuttering panel fell on an employee. The firm pleaded guilty to two breaches of health and safety legislation at Antrim Crown Court on Thursday, 12 December.

£14m Film Studios Announced For Belfast
Two new film studios at a cost of £14m are to be built in Belfast, the Department of the Environment has announced. Planning approval has been granted for the new studios, which will expand on the existing facilities in the city's Titanic Quarter, where the HBO fantasy drama Game Of Thrones is filmed.

Male Nurse Struck Off
An "overfriendly" 32-year-old male nurse who formerly worked at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald has been struck off. A professional conduct panel heard that Jonathan Gourley had made suggestive comments to female members of staff and had touched them inappropriately.
