Elderly Man Shot During Home Invasion In Coleraine
Detectives in Coleraine are investigating a reported shooting incident that occurred in a residential property in the Ballygallin Park area on Thursday evening, 30th January.
Detective Inspector Lavery said: "Shortly after 7.50pm, we received a report that a number of men, wearing balaclavas, had broken into a house and assaulted a 70-year-old male resident. The man sustained gunshot wounds to his arms and legs and injuries to his head and torso. Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
"This attack on an elderly person in their own home is appalling," Detective Inspector Lavery continued. "Vigilantism has no place in our society, and we are fortunate the outcome wasn't more serious."
Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in anyone who saw or heard suspicious activity, or who has CCTV or other footage that could be relevant to the investigation.
You can also submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
Information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
