Move To Universal Credit Begins For Income Support Recipients
The next stage of the transition to Universal Credit has begun, with the Department for Communities issuing Migration Notices to individuals currently receiving Income Support.
These individuals will have three months from the date of their letter to make a claim for Universal Credit.
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons urged recipients to take the necessary action. "If you have received a Migration Notice it is important that you make a claim to Universal Credit," Minister Lyons said. Support is available for those making the transition, including a dedicated telephony team and face-to-face support at local Jobs and Benefits offices.
"To ensure that everyone receives the financial support they are entitled to, staff in my Department are available to provide help through a dedicated telephony team and face-to-face support at local Jobs and Benefits offices," Minister Lyons added.
A non-repayable two-week run-on payment is provided for claimants transitioning from Income Support, Housing Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance (Income-Based), and Employment and Support Allowance (Income-Related) to Universal Credit.
The migration process for remaining legacy benefits, such as Housing Benefit, will continue throughout the year.
