Man Released On Bail In Strabane Hoax Security Alert Investigation

A 39-year-old man arrested by detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch in connection with a hoax security alert in Strabane has been released on bail. The release is to allow for further enquiries in the ongoing investigation.

The alert was sparked on Tuesday, 10 June, after a suspicious device was reported in a vehicle in Evish Square. A public safety operation was implemented, leading to cordons and road closures in the Mount Carmel Heights and Newtownkennedy Street area, and the evacuation of some homes. Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended the scene and, following examination, determined the device to be a hoax.

As the investigation continues, detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Evish Square at the time and noticed any suspicious or unusual activity, or who has information about this incident, to come forward.

Witnesses or anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting reference number 275 of 10/06/25. Reports can also be submitted online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through their website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
