South Belfast Security Alert Declared Elaborate Hoax

A security alert in South Belfast has ended after two suspicious devices left outside a residential address were declared an elaborate hoax.

Inspector Bell confirmed that police received a report just before 9am on Thursday, 2 October 2025, that two suspicious devices had been left outside a house in Castleward Park.

Cordons were quickly implemented and a number of nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution. Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended the scene and examined the devices.

Inspector Bell stated: "The items have been taken away for forensic examination, but at this stage we believe this was an elaborate hoax."

He acknowledged the impact on residents, describing it as a "distressing experience for the residents of the property and those who live nearby, who had to deal with the discomfort and inconvenience of being put out of their homes". He thanked everyone affected for their patience.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and officers have appealed to anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 317 02/10/25.

The alert began shortly after 4:35pm on Sunday, 12 November, when it was reported to police that a suspicious object had been found at residential premises in the Sunnyside Drive area. A bomb alert in County Armagh has been declared an elaborate hoax. A number of houses had to be evacuated after army bomb experts examined a suspicious object on the Laurelvale Road in Tandragee. All roads have now been reopened and residents have returned to their homes.

North Belfast Device 'Elaborate Hoax'
Homes were evacuated in north Belfast on Sunday following the discovery of suspicious object. Stanhope Street was closed as Army bomb experts examined the device, it was later declared an "elaborate hoax". The alert lasted for several hours, but residents were eventually allowed to the return to their homes, and the street was opened to traffic.

Co Antrim Security Alert Declared 'Elaborate Hoax'
A security alert in County Antrim has been declared an elaborate hoax by the police. Part of the M5 and A2 roads were closed after a suspicious object was found in Abbeydale Close on Tuesday morning. The Shore Road was closed between Station Road and Hazelbank and the M5 were closed country-bound. They have now been re-opened.
