Maghera Security Alert Declared 'Elaborate Hoax'

A security alert in Maghera has been declared an "elaborate hoax".

The alert began shortly after 4:35pm on Sunday, 12 November, when it was reported to police that a suspicious object had been found at residential premises in the Sunnyside Drive area.

A number of homes in the area were evacuated, as police conducted a public safety operation. The object was examined at the scene before being declared a hoax and removed for further forensic examination.

Inspector Long said: "Our enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1103 12/11/23. "
