Further Arrests In Ballymena Disorder As Three Charged With Riot
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has made further arrests following a third consecutive night of disorder in Ballymena, as three individuals charged in connection with Tuesday's unrest appeared in court today.
Detectives investigating the violence on Wednesday, 11 June, arrested a 30-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman on suspicion of riot. Both remain in police custody as enquiries continue into the sustained attacks on officers. These arrests follow charges brought against three individuals in relation to the disorder on Tuesday, 10th June. An 18-year-old man and two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17, were charged with riot. The 15-year-old also faces a charge of criminal damage.
Two other teenage boys arrested during Tuesday's disorder have been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
The PSNI has condemned the "completely unacceptable" violence, which has seen officers subjected to petrol bombs, heavy masonry, bricks, and fireworks. Nine officers were injured during Wednesday night's unrest, though none seriously. The PSNI has confirmed the deployment of Attenuating Energy Projectiles (AEPs) and the water cannon in efforts to disperse crowds.
