Belfast Man Arrested In Connection With Disorder Last Summer

Detectives investigating serious public disorder in Belfast last summer have made a further arrest.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting riot.

The arrest follows an identification made by officers investigating disorder in Ballymena on Wednesday, 11th June. Detective Chief Inspector Michael O’Loan stated, "Detectives investigating the disorder in Ballymena on Wednesday, 11th June identified a man present who they believed was involved in the shameful disorder we saw throughout Belfast last summer."

The offences for which the man was arrested relate to violence in the Broadway area of the city on Tuesday, 16th July 2024, and in the Sandy Row / Donegall Road area on Saturday, 3rd and Monday, 5th August 2024.

Following questioning, the man was released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector O’Loan assured the community that the investigation into these incidents is "very much ongoing," adding that officers are "always on the lookout for those suspected of participating in the unrest."

He concluded, "Police continue to work hard to ensure that anyone who chooses to take part in this type of criminality faces the consequences of their actions. We are committed to ensuring positive criminal justice outcomes for victims."

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Man Arrested Following Incident At House In Coleraine
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Charged Over Murder Of Anne O'Neill
A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Anne ONeill. The 51-year-old victim died from her injuries following an incident at a house in the Ardmore Avenue area in Finaghy on Saturday, 21 October. The suspect is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 25 October.

Two Charged With Murdering Owen Creaney
Two people have been charged with the murder of Owen Creaney. Mr Creaney, 40, who has been described as "frail and vulnerable" by police, was found in a wheelie bin at a property in the Craigavon area on Saturday (5 July). Following the discovery, detectives arrested a man, aged 27, and a 23-year-old woman in connection with the incident.
