Viable Device Discovered In Ards Security Alert

A security alert in the Linden Place area of Newtownards has now concluded, after a viable device was discovered inside a residential property.

Residents who had been evacuated overnight were permitted to return to their homes shortly after midnight today, Thursday, 26 June 2025.

Sergeant Fenton reported that police received a call at approximately 17:25 yesterday, Wednesday, 25 June 2025, regarding a suspicious object found within a property in the area.

Officers, alongside ammunition technical officers, attended the scene to examine the device, which was subsequently confirmed as viable. As a precautionary measure, a number of neighbouring properties were evacuated while enquiries were conducted. The device was secured and has been taken away for further examination.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing this morning. Authorities are appealing to anyone with any information that might assist their investigation to contact 101, quoting reference number 1243 of 25/06/25.

'Viable Pipe Bomb' At Centre Of Antrim Rd Security Alert

Emergency services responded to reports of a suspicious object shortly before 6pm last night, Thursday 11 May. A viable device found during a security alert in north Belfast is believed to be linked to a hate crime. Police and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene at Atlantic Avenue on Thursday, 25 August. A number of residents were evacuated from their homes, however they have since returned.

Viable Device Found In Newry Had Detonated
A device found in Newry on Thursday had exploded, according to police. The device was discovered on the Barracric Road and a railway line between Newry and Dundalk was forced to close. It has since been re-opened. No damage was caused and there were no reports of any injuries. The device has been taken away by the police for further examination.

Viable Incendiary Device Found On Police Station Grounds
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a viable incendiary device discovered on the grounds of Ballycastle Police Station, Co Antrim. A second device found has been declared a hoax. They were discovered on the Ramoan Road on Thursday morning. A number of businesses were forced to close during the alert, however they have now reopened.
