Man Charged With Attempted Murder Following Armagh Bar Attack

Detectives investigating a petrol bomb attack on a bar in Armagh on Monday, 18 August, have charged a 38-year-old man to court.

He faces charges including two counts of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life, and possession of a blade or point.

The incident occurred on Irish Street, where a petrol bomb was thrown into a bar. Patrons were also threatened with a knife as they fled the premises. Two men, one in his 30s and one in his 60s, were injured in the attack and treated in hospital for burn injuries. One of the men has since been discharged.

The suspect has also been charged with three counts of criminal damage in connection with reports of windows being smashed at homes on Keady Road and Cregagh Gardens earlier that same evening. He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court today, 20 August 2025.

The PSNI is continuing to investigate and is keen to hear from witnesses or those with information or any footage captured in the area between 7pm and 9pm. Information can be provided by calling 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Man On Trial Over Ear-Biting Attack

Man Charged Over Petrol Bomb Attack
The man charged with the petrol bomb attack in Antrim is expected to appear in court tomorrow. The 31-year-old male is due at Antrim magistrates court and is charged with a number of offences, including possession of a petrol bomb, according to police. The incident occurred at 10.10pm on Sunday night in the Dromain Drive area of the town.

Man to appear in court charged with McCartney murder
A 49-year-old man is to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with the murder of Belfast man Robert McCartney. A second man, 36, is also due in court charged with the attempted murder of Brendan Devine who was seriously injured during the same incident on January 30 outside a Belfast bar.
