Man Charged After Laser Pointed At Police Helicopter In Lurgan
Police have charged a 20-year-old man after a laser beam was reportedly directed at a police helicopter yesterday evening, Monday, 18 August 2025.
The incident took place at around 11.15pm in the Victoria Street area of Lurgan.
The man has been charged with shining or directing a laser beam towards a vehicle, endangering the safety of a vehicle, and shining a light to dazzle or distract a pilot.
He is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday, 12 September 2025. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 28-year-old man has been jailed for 4 months for shining a laser beam at a police helicopter in January this year. Melvin Joyce admitted endangering the aircraft's safety during an incident in January of this year when he directed a laser at it from the Dunmore area of North Belfast on 21 January.

Police investigating the murder of Nelson Cheung have charged a man with perverting the course of justice. The man, 24, has also been charged with possession of class B drugs. He is due to appear in court on 2 June. Mr Cheung, 65, was killed after being stabbed on the Claddy Road in Randalstown on 8 January.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Serious Crime Branch, investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh in February 2023, have charged a man to court. The charge follows the man’s arrest and subsequent detention under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.
