Man Charged In Connection With Caldwell Investigation

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Serious Crime Branch, investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh in February 2023, have charged a man to court.

The charge follows the man’s arrest and subsequent detention under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

The 73-year-old man, who was arrested in the Ardboe area, has been charged with two offences: the preparation of terrorist acts and perverting the course of justice. He is due to appear before Strabane Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning, Thursday 20 November 2025. As is standard procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A second man, aged 37, who was also arrested on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, has been released. Police confirmed he will be reported to the Public Prosecution Service in due course.
