New Advisory Committee To Lead Curriculum Reform
Education Minister Paul Givan has announced the membership of the Curriculum Taskforce Advisory Committee (TAC), a body that will spearhead the reform of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
The Taskforce will be led by internationally respected educationalist Christine Counsell as Chair and Lucy Crehan, who conducted the recent Strategic Review of the curriculum, as Deputy Chair. The Minister has appointed a number of members to the committee, including Baroness Amanda Spielman, Tim Oates CBE, and Clare Sealy OBE, who will be responsible for preparing a new curriculum framework that is "coherent, cumulative, challenging and 'knowledge-rich'". The committee will work alongside local teachers and subject specialists who will make up a series of subject working groups.
It is envisaged that the new statutory curriculum framework will be developed by September 2026, with implementation in schools to begin from September 2027. According to Mr Givan, the expertise of the group will be crucial in delivering an ambitious and rigorous curriculum that raises standards and supports all learners.
