Call For Views To Shape NI's New Curriculum Framework
A new online survey to help shape the future development of a new curriculum framework for Northern Ireland has been launched by Education Minister Paul Givan.
School leaders, teachers, and the wider education sector are being asked to provide their insights on individual subjects and Areas of Learning. The feedback gathered will be used to guide the work of the Curriculum Taskforce and inform the subject working groups being established.
Minister Givan stated that this is a "key opportunity to influence the future of curriculum policy and ensure the new Northern Ireland curriculum meets the needs of learners today and in the years ahead". He emphasised that the goal is to shape a curriculum that builds on existing successful practices and supports every learner to thrive. Christine Counsell, Chairperson of the Curriculum Taskforce, added that the survey aims to identify strengths and challenges in each subject area and gather ideas for future development. She specifically invited views on:
Strong curriculum practice currently operating in Northern Ireland schools.
The broader capabilities the curriculum should aim to develop across all subjects.
The Curriculum Taskforce's overall goal is to design a system curriculum framework that clearly sets out the core content, essential knowledge, concepts, and skills that all pupils should be taught in each subject.
The survey is open until 28 November 2025 and can be accessed at - consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/de/curriculum-review-curriculum-survey
