Northern Ireland's largest energy supplier, Power NI, is set to increase its electricity tariff by 4% from 1 October 2025.

The price hike will see a typical credit meter customer's annual bill rise by around £40, while a keypad (PAYG) meter customer will see an increase of about £39 per year.

Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy Policy at The Consumer Council, said that the increase will see the average annual cost of electricity rise to around £1,029 for credit customers and around £1,003 for keypad customers.

He noted that the main drivers for the increase were rising market operation and network-related charges. This marks the second tariff increase from Power NI in under a year. The Consumer Council works with the Utility Regulator and suppliers to ensure consumers are protected during price changes.

Mr Gormley encouraged consumers to review their payment methods and consider switching suppliers to find better deals.

"Being on a standard tariff and paying on receipt of a bill is the most expensive way to pay for your electricity," he said.
