Man Dies Following Water Emergency In Dromore
A man has died following a water rescue from the River Lagan in Dromore early Sunday morning (29 September).
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) confirmed that firefighters attended the scene after reports of a water emergency at 7.28am. Crews from Lisburn, Dromore and Banbridge fire stations used specialist rescue equipment to recover the man from the river. A NIFRS spokesperson said "the thoughts and sympathies of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are with the loved ones" of the man involved.
Firefighters concluded operations at 8.16am.

Body Found In Missing Person Search
The search for a "high-risk missing person" in north Belfast has sadly ended with the discovery of a body. Volunteers from the Community Rescue Service (CRS) were deployed to the area on Tuesday morning, 28 May, to assist in the search for a person who had been missing from their home for some time.

Fire Service Rescue Man From Newtownards Fire
A man was rescued by fire crews from a fire at his County Down home in the early hours of Sunday morning. Fire crews wearing breathing equipment rescued the man from a ground floor flat at Bristol Park in Newtownards and he has since been taken to hospital where he is being treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

NIFRS Announces Appointment Of New Chief
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Board has named Aidan Jennings as their new Chief Fire & Rescue Officer. Mr Jennings has over 28 years of experience within the Fire & Rescue Service, most recently as Assistant Chief Fire & Rescue Officer and Director of Operational Delivery. He will take up his position on 1 December 2023.
