Officers Injured In Ramming Incident In Coalisland
Two people have been arrested in the Coalisland area after a police pursuit on Thursday, 2 October 2025, during which two officers sustained injuries.
Chief Inspector Brown confirmed that officers on patrol on the Moor Road area attempted to stop a vehicle with no insurance. The vehicle sped off, leading to a pursuit in which the police car was first reverse-rammed by the suspect's vehicle, which then continued to drive dangerously.
At a later stage, the offending vehicle rammed the same police vehicle head-on, injuring two officers.
The pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle entered the grounds of a local GAA club, driving across the pitch in an effort to evade police before the driver made off on foot.
Following a foot chase, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage and numerous driving offences, including dangerous driving, driving when unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop for police. A 29-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing police, dangerous driving, using a mobile phone while driving, and cruelty to children. The woman, who was driving a second vehicle with a young child on board, had refused to let police pass, actively moving her car to block officers during the pursuit.
Both suspects remain in police custody.
Chief Inspector Brown stated that thankfully the two police officers did not sustain serious injuries, but called the targeting of officers "unacceptable". He added that the police car was damaged and had to be recovered, impacting the local community.
Police are appealing for information, or any CCTV or dash-cam footage, quoting reference 542 of 02/10/25.
