Minimum Terms Handed Down For Malcolm McKeown Murder
Two men have been sentenced at Antrim Crown Court in connection with the murder of Malcolm McKeown in August 2019.
Jake O'Brien (31) and Andrew Martin (30), both from Lurgan, were given life sentences earlier this year after being found guilty of the murder.
During the hearing on Monday, 06 October, O'Brien was told he will serve a minimum of 26 years in prison, and Andrew Martin was given a minimum term of 24 years in prison.
Both defendants also received concurrent indeterminate custodial sentences of 10 years for possession of firearms and ammunition with intent.
Malcolm McKeown (54) was shot dead on the evening of 19 August 2019 in Waringstown. Detective Inspector Jennifer Rea described the crime as a "calculated and cold-blooded execution," saying Mr McKeown was shot at least six times at close range while sitting in his car near a garage on Main Street.
The Detective Inspector highlighted the impact of the brutal attack: "His body was found, in his parked car, by two young teenagers who, I've no doubt, will have been left scarred by their terrible discovery that evening".
She said the pre-planned, organised murder left a family bereft, adding that Mr McKeown was a much-loved father of three, grandfather, brother, and uncle. She thanked the public in Waringstown, Lurgan, and surrounding areas for their invaluable support to the investigation.
