Met Office Issues Yellow Wind Warning For Northern Ireland

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for all of Northern Ireland, which is in effect from 1.00pm until 11.00pm today, Thursday, 30 October 2025.

The alert warns of strong south to south-easterly winds that will strengthen throughout the afternoon and evening, potentially causing damage and disruption across the region.

The severe weather alert forecasts that gusts of up to 50mph (80km/h) are expected widely across Northern Ireland. Winds will be significantly stronger in exposed coastal areas and over higher ground, particularly towards the east coast, where gusts could reach up to 70mph (115km/h). Outbreaks of rain are also expected throughout the day, becoming heavier later in the evening.

The combination of strong winds and rain is likely to lead to a range of travel issues and community disruption.

The Met Office advises that:

• Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, with bus and train services expected to be affected, resulting in longer journey times.

• Delays for high-sided vehicles are probable on exposed routes and bridges.

• Coastal routes, sea fronts, and communities could be affected by spray and/or large waves.

• The possibility of some short term loss of power and other services exists.

Due to the forecast strong winds, a number of planned Halloween events have already been either cancelled or rescheduled. Authorities are urging the public to take precautions throughout the afternoon and evening.
