Housing Executive Backs 'Growing Together' Project At Open Doors Complex

The Housing Executive has announced support for the 'Growing Together' project at the Open Doors Complex in Bellaghy, a cross-community initiative focused on bringing people together, developing skills and strengthening local ties.

Run by a team of committed local volunteers, the Open Doors Complex has operated in Bellaghy for the past two and a half years, welcoming everyone in the area. The facility offers a large sports hall, rooms for hire, an allotment, bee hives and a small café.

As part of 'Growing Together', the group will deliver classes and workshops in gardening, painting, baking, crafts, cookery and upholstery. These activities are designed to encourage participation, reduce social isolation and promote wellbeing in a safe, friendly environment.

Sharon Crooks, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager, said: "We are proud to support the Open Doors Complex and their 'Growing Together' project. This initiative reflects exactly what community spirit is all about – people coming together, learning from one another, and building lasting connections.

"It's fantastic to see such enthusiasm and creativity driving positive change in Bellaghy."

The Open Doors Complex plays an important role in bridging divides and encouraging cross-community relationships. With support from the Housing Executive’s Community Cohesion funding, the project aims to strengthen volunteering and skills development.

By creating practical opportunities for residents to learn and work together, 'Growing Together' will help build long-term community capacity, foster self-reliance and ensure Bellaghy continues to thrive as a welcoming, inclusive place for all.
