Infrastructure Department Seeks Views On Road Noise Action Plan

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has today launched a public consultation on the Road Noise Action Plan Round 4, a new draft strategy aimed at managing and mitigating road traffic noise across Northern Ireland. This plan originates from the European Environmental Noise Directive, which requires noise mapping to be carried out every five years to assess public exposure and pinpoint areas requiring improvement.

Round 4 of this mandatory noise mapping has been completed this year. The resulting Action Plan, which addresses noise from a number of major roads, is currently scheduled for official adoption and publication in 2026.

Ahead of the final publication, the DfI is seeking views on the draft Action Plan from all interested parties.

The consultation starts today, Thursday, 27 November 2025, and will run for eight weeks, closing at 5pm on Thursday, 22 January 2026.

Further information on the draft plan and details on how to respond are available on the departmental website: www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/consultations/environmental-noise-directive-road-noise-action-plan-2023-2028
