Police Investigate Arson Attack In Markethill

The PSNI is appealing for information after a suspected petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Markethill during the early hours of Wednesday, 28th January.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident in the Bunker Hill area at approximately 3.40am. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered damage to the property, including a broken window pane and black scorch marks visible on the front door and the frame of the living room window. Evidence found at the site confirmed that a petrol bomb had been used in the attack.

The house was empty at the time of the incident, and police have confirmed that no injuries were sustained. Detectives are currently working to establish a motive for the attack and identify those responsible.

Inspector Moffett commented: "We received a report at approximately 3.40am today, Wednesday 28th January, after a suspected petrol bomb was thrown at a property in the Bunker Hill area."

Regarding the scene, Inspector Moffett added: "On officers arrival, black scorch marks were noted to the front living room window frame and front door. Evidence of a petrol bomb was also observed – and a window pane had been broken."

The Inspector continued: "Thankfully, the property was unoccupied at the time – with no injuries reported. Our enquiries are ongoing today to determine a motive and who was involved. We are keen to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour in the area around the time of the report."

Authorities are urging anyone with information, or those who may have captured CCTV or dash-cam footage in the vicinity, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 104 28/01/26. Alternatively, reports can be submitted via the PSNI’s online form or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A property has been damaged during a petrol bomb attack in Banbridge, Co Down. The device was thrown at the bathroom window of the house in Golf Terrace at around 7.30pm on Saturday. Minor scorch damage was caused to the rear of the property and a man who was in the house at the time escaped injury.

Larry McGrady was in bed in his Erris Grove flat when a device was thrown through a bedroom window at about 3.00am on Tuesday. The pensioner managed to extinguish the fire but suffered minor burns and cuts from broken glass.
