Tourism Northern Ireland has launched a dedicated Music Experience Development Programme to help local providers create world-class visitor offerings in time for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026.

Belfast is set to host the prestigious event from 2 to 9 August 2026, with the city bracing for an influx of nearly 700,000 international and domestic tourists.

The initiative is designed to uncover and polish "demand-generating" experiences that showcase the region's rich musical heritage. Tourism NI is specifically looking for immersive, multi-sensory ideas that go beyond traditional performances. Examples include:

- Skill-based workshops: Learning to play a traditional instrument or witnessing the craft of instrument making.

- Guided tours: Thematic urban or rural walks focused on local musical history and traditions. - Artist encounters: Personal sessions where visitors meet traditional musicians to discuss their craft.

The Fleadh represents a landmark opportunity for the hospitality and tourism sectors to increase overnight stays and stimulate growth across transport, attractions, and tours.

We want visitors to share in these traditions and connect with the music makers who make our places unique. In August, the Fleadh will bring a spotlight on music here like never before and this programme is designed to inspire and create new authentic music experiences that will attract, engage and immerse visitors for years to come."
