Three Arrested Following £25,000 Drug Seizure in Magheramason
Police in Derry City & Strabane arrested three people and seized suspected Class A drugs with an estimated street value of £25,000 following an incident in Magheramason on Thursday night, 5 February.
Officers from the Local Policing Team were on patrol on the Victoria Road when they observed a vehicle overtaking other cars. After the officers activated their blue lights and sirens, the driver came to a stop in Magheramason.
Upon approaching the car, police detected a strong smell of suspected cannabis. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a quantity of suspected Class A drugs. All three occupants of the car were detained and remain in police custody as enquiries continue. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs, being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug, and driving without due care and attention. A 24-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug, while a 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug and being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug.
Sergeant Moore stated: "The suspected drugs seizure and arrests made last night were as a result of combined efforts involving Local Policing Team and District Support Team officers.
"We want to assure you, that every day, here in Derry City & Strabane, and with colleagues from across the Police Service, we are working to tackle the illicit supply or use of drugs. They cause misery in our communities – we have seen that far too often."
The Sergeant also urged anyone with information regarding drug-related activity to contact the police on 101, use the online reporting form, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
