£320,000 Resurfacing Project Begins At Lincoln Courts

Residents and commuters in Derry's Waterside are being advised of upcoming travel changes as a £320,000 resurfacing project at Lincoln Courts got underway on Monday 24 February.

The investment will see a complete overhaul of the U1593 loop road, with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) confirming that the works will cover the entire length of the route from both of its junctions with the B530 Rossdowney Road. The project includes significant repairs to both the road surface and the adjoining footways, providing a smoother and safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians.

To allow the work to be carried out safely, a traffic management priority system has been introduced. While one of the Rossdowney Road entrances will remain open at all times to maintain access, the Department has warned that delays are likely.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Derry City area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local community groups and businesses for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

The project is being delivered in two phases:

• Phase One: Preparatory civil engineering works, which are expected to last until Friday 27 March.

• Phase Two: Full carriageway resurfacing, which will begin once the initial groundworks are complete.

The Department expects the scheme to be substantially finished by Friday 17 April, provided weather conditions remain favourable. Officials have confirmed that Translink bus routes and school services have been considered in the planning process to keep disruption to a minimum.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys in the Waterside area and to follow all temporary traffic signs and restrictions throughout the duration of the works.
