SSE Airtricity Gas Announces 8.1% Price Cut for Customers

SSE Airtricity Gas has confirmed a price reduction of 8.10% for its regulated gas tariffs, benefiting domestic and small business customers across the Greater Belfast and West gas network areas. The change is set to come into effect on 1 April 2026.

This adjustment means that a typical household in these networks using a credit meter will see their annual gas bill decrease by approximately £80. Customers utilising prepayment (PAYG) meters can expect a reduction in typical costs of around £79 per year.

The move follows a previous tariff decrease of 8.47% in October 2025 and will impact roughly 215,000 customers.

Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy Policy at the Consumer Council, said: "This SSE Airtricity gas tariff decrease is good news, as it indicates a gradual downward curve in wholesale energy prices. However, the energy market does continue to remain volatile due to ongoing global geopolitical concerns.

"The Consumer Council works closely with the Utility Regulator and regulated supply companies, to ensure that any cost savings are passed onto consumers quickly when wholesale energy prices begin to decrease. We also help protect and support consumers during energy price increases."

"Although gas prices are slowly coming down, we would urge anyone who is struggling to pay their energy bills or top-up their meters to contact their supplier directly for help and support."

The Consumer Council provides a range of advice and information regarding home energy efficiency and maintains a list of organisations available to support those finding it difficult to manage energy costs. Further details are available at www.consumercouncil.org.uk.
