Click Energy and Share Energy to Increase Electricity Tariffs
Two of Northern Ireland's electricity providers, Click Energy and Share Energy, have confirmed significant price increases scheduled to take effect from 1 April 2026.
The adjustments will see Click Energy's tariff rise by 9.5%, while Share Energy customers will experience a 26.4% increase.
The changes will impact approximately 33,000 Click Energy consumers and 22,500 Share Energy consumers. For those on a typical credit or prepayment plan, a Click Energy customer can expect an annual increase of roughly £108. Meanwhile, typical Share Energy households will see their annual costs rise by approximately £213.
The Consumer Council has attributed these sharp rises to ongoing instability in global wholesale energy markets, largely driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council, said: "This is very unwelcome news for around 33,000 Click Energy consumers and around 22,500 Share Energy consumers. This increase has been driven by the continued volatility in wholesale energy costs, caused by geopolitics in the Middle East.
"If anyone is struggling to pay their electricity bills or top-up their prepayment meter, please get in touch with your supplier for help and advice. We would encourage consumers to think about the way they pay for their energy and see if they can reduce their energy costs. Being on a standard tariff and paying on receipt of a bill is the most expensive way to pay for your electricity. Switching payment option, changing billing method, or even switching supplier may save you money."
To assist households in managing these rising costs, the Consumer Council provides a free, independent price comparison tool. This resource allows consumers to compare all available gas and electricity tariffs in Northern Ireland in one place.
For those without internet access or who require further assistance with checking tariffs, the Consumer Council team can be reached by telephone at 0800 121 6022 or via email at contact@consumercouncil.org.uk.
