Duncrue Street Fire In Belfast Extinguished - NIFRS
A significant blaze on Duncrue Street in Belfast has been extinguished, the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has confirmed after a large-scale response involving multiple stations and specialist units.
A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: "A large fire on Duncrue Street, Belfast has now been dealt with. The initial call was received at 4:06pm on Tuesday 24 March 2026. "At the height of the incident, over 40 Firefighters and personnel were involved in the operational response with Appliances from Whitla, Westland, Glengormley, Central, Knock, Springfield, and Lisburn Fire Stations, including an Aerial Appliance, a Hazardous Materials Appliance and a Command Support Unit.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident.
"The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 6.59pm on Tuesday 24 March 2026."

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The emergency services are this afternoon dealing with what police have described as a chemical 'explosion' involving hazardous materials in the docks area of Belfast. The PSNI said a 100-metre exclusion zone has been set up around a chemical distributions firm in the Duncrue Industrial Estate.

Tunnel Breakthrough For Belfast Sewers Project
Nearly a mile long and 40 metres below ground, a key section of Belfast's deepest tunnel was completed yesterday as the tunnel boring machine (TBM) made its breakthrough at Duncrue Street. Capable of holding vast overflows of stormwater - up to four million gallons - it will reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the greater Belfast area.

Belfast Sewers Project 'Does The Business'
A multi-million pound project to completely rebuild and extend Belfast's previous Victorian sewage system has been completed. The Sewers Project - which cost £160m - was officially opened by the NI Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy who 'launched' the major stormwater pumping station to mark its completion.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.
